EDEN AU LAC, Zürich
The EDEN AU LAC – the only luxury hotel located directly on the scenic shores of Lake Zurich – was built in 1909. The successful early years were followed by the turmoil of the First World War and then the "golden twenties" before the hotel had to be saved from the brink of bankruptcy by a Zurich bank. The bank appointed respected Swiss businessman Arthur Louis Thurnheer to manage the property. He and his dedicated wife succeeded in guiding the hotel through the Second World War and subsequently to restoring the reputation of the EDEN AU LAC as one of the leading luxury establishments in Switzerland.
In the 1960s Thurnheer handed over the management to a young hotelier, Ruedi Bärtchsi, and he (together with his wife) continued the successful running of the business and also became majority shareholder. In 2002 the Bärtschis, in turn, passed on the management of the EDEN AU LAC to their daughter and son-in-law Kathrin and Dario Fumagalli-Bärtschi. They managed the hotel until the summer of 2007.
The hotel was acquired by the Victoria-Jungfrau Company in 2005, since when it has been a member of the VICTORIA-JUNGFRAU COLLECTION.
